About Us

We thought you just might want to know who Buck really was, and why was a corn maze named after him? Buck was the name, or more like the nickname, or W.Z. "Buck" Samples. He farmed the entire bottoms on both sides of the creek, where the corn maze is now located, for almost 50 years.

Buck Samples was born in 1916 in the Chamblee-Tucker area of Dekalb County, Georgia, into a farming family that valued the land and the tradition of farming. Buck and his wife Lillie Mae, moved to this area of Dawson County in 1955. They had 5 children and began a long history of farming that still continues by his family today. He grew some of the finest tomatoes, squash, potatoes, beans, okra, peppers, melons and of course corn, in all of North Georgia. The fertile land of the creek bottoms (known as Cochran Creek) provided rich soil that always produced delicious vegetables. Buck was known far and wide for his fresh produce, and locals as well as passers-by would stop and buy a basket of tomatoes, a bushel of beans, or a peck of corn.

Buck was known for his friendliness to all, and everyone was more than welcome to come by and visit and enjoy the beautiful countryside that lies at the base of the Appalachian Mountain range. That tradition still continues today, although Buck is gone, his family still welcomes everyone to come and enjoy the corn maze and the tranquil countryside. It's fun for the whole family, and when you come once, you'll want to come back every year. Join us in the tradition and make it one of yours too!
